DJ Davey H was born in Oldham in May 1957 (yes he really IS a Taurus). He comes from a musical background
(his grandfather had a banjo hanging over the fireplace!!). He moved to Plymouth when he was 11 and at the ripe old age of 13 he started working as a roadie for the local DJ. Bought up on a wide variety of music he soon found a love of MOTOWN & SOUL and later NORTHERN SOUL. He attended All Niters at Wigan Casino, Blackpool Mecca and the famous Cleethorpes All Dayer. After a 2 year stint in the Plymouth dockyards he enlisted in the RAF Regiment. He played his first paid gig in the families club for the princely sum of 20 quid in 1975.
From there he started doing discos in the NAAFI twice a week and in 1978 was posted to RAF Akrotiri here in Cyprus. He started doing 3 nightly shows on the camp radio station and was the first UK DJ to have a mobile disco on the island. In 1979 he also started working in a club in Limassol and did every weekend until he left in 1981. Whilst in Cyprus, Davey H also did the odd session for BFBS radio.
On his return to the UK he went back to working the NAAFI circuit until he was posted to Germany for 3 years, again he became very popular in the various RAF camps and by now had collected a vast amount of music. These were PRE Mixing days , so Davey H had to learn to use the Mic and he still loves to banter with the crowd. On his return to the UK in 1986 he set up a mobile disco with his long term friend and they called it "coast to coast". They travelled all over the UK from military camp to military camp, from junior ranks to officers messes. He also did radio work in Belize and other far away places.
In 1994 he left the forces and as a civilian went to work in the industry he loved...Music. Installing and repairing sound and light equipment in the clubs and bars in the North East. He picked up a residency in the largest fun pub in Darlington, played in clubs in Redcar, Middlesborough, Stockton and on occassion Sheffield, this meant he was working 5-6 nights a week plus his day job. No one can say he is "work shy".
In January 2004 he relocated to Cyprus permanently and started working the bars as a DJ and host. In June 2004 he stepped in to help raise the declining numbers in Starsky's and after a radical change in the music policy the club started to pick up. He plays 7 nights a week every season. He loves it, he loves the club, he loves the people, but most of all he loves the MUSIC!!
In December 2005 and 2006 he went back to the UK to do "Ayia Napa nites" in the North East and Plymouth and may do so again this year!
One thing is for sure wherever he plays a crowd will be sure to follow!!!!
